Fan Up
The University of Utah, the Big 12 Conference, and the NCAA promote good sportsmanship from student-athletes, coaches, and spectators. We request your cooperation by supporting the participants and officials in a positive manner through the FanUP initiative. All fans can make Utah proud by being welcoming, respectful, and responsible during home athletic events.
When you take the FanUP pledge, you commit to:
- Supporting our Utes and welcoming visiting teams and their fans
- Promoting a family-friendly experience
- Enjoying the game responsibly
- Cheering loud and being Ute Proud!
Profanity, racial or sexist comments, and any other acts of intimidation, directed at officials, student-athletes, coaches, visiting fans, or team representatives will not be tolerated and are grounds for removal from the site of competition. Please help identify and call out negative behavior. Your cooperation is greatly appreciated!
The safety of the student-athletes and the spectators is our top priority. Spectators are reminded that anyone engaged in unsafe or inappropriate conduct is subject to immediate ejection from the premises. FanUP and make us Ute Proud!
MUSS – Commitment to good sportsmanship
The MUSS, U Alumni, Utah Athletics, and the Office of the Dean of Students would like to remind you that as a MUSS member and student at the University of Utah, you agree to abide by all the rules and regulations of Rice-Eccles Stadium. This includes the Fan Behavior Guidelines and the FanUP initiative. Additionally, as a student, you will be held accountable to the Student Code of Rights & Responsibilities. You are expected to be aware of these policies/regulations and behave accordingly.
The following behaviors will be cause for ejection from The MUSS and from Rice-Eccles Stadium:
- Alcohol possession and/or public intoxication
- Racial and derogatory comments directed at individuals or groups
- Rude and disrespectful behavior
- Throwing items
- Overcrowding—your area will be given a warning, but if the overcrowding continues, the entire row could be ejected
- Vomiting
- Smoking, vaping, or chewing tobacco
All ejections will be made at the discretion of stadium security and University Police. If you are ejected from the stadium, or if someone using your ticket is ejected, you lose the privilege of attending the next home football game. If ejected, you will also be referred to the Office of the Dean of Students for possible violation of the Student Code. If you are found responsible for violating the Student Code, you will be subject to behavioral sanctions which may include suspension from the university. Your actions may also have criminal consequences (e.g., public intoxication, minor in possession, physical assault, etc.) to be determined by law enforcement.
The MUSS section should be a loud and rowdy atmosphere, but not at the expense of anyone else’s enjoyment. We encourage good sportsmanship and expect each student to be respectful and considerate of the fans around them. We want to be very clear that profanity, public intoxication, rude and disrespectful behavior, racial and derogatory comments, or verbal attacks will not be tolerated. If you see inappropriate behavior during the game, please text “FANUP” to 69050 and include a description and location of the incident.
You are the most loyal and passionate fans—and the best student section in the nation—and we are excited to join with you to cheer on our student-athletes throughout the year.
